A Full Bathroom Remodel, Built To Age In Place With A Curbless Shower

The Old Tub Took Up Too Much Room

The old bathroom had a bathtub and a shelf eating up most of the room — tight to move around in, especially for someone getting older. The vanity and the herringbone floor tile were already picked out, so the design work focused on the rest of the room: wall tiles, a curbless, sliding glass shower with a built-in bench and grab bars where the tub used to be. The result is an age-in-place bathroom with more open floor space, room enough to get around comfortably, even with a dog underfoot.

Here is what it looked like before…

Choosing Materials That Work Together

The vanity and the herringbone tile were already chosen before we got involved. Everything else — the shower tile, the marble, the brushed nickel fixtures — was designed to match them. The shower bench got a matching marble top, cut to line up with the vanity counter.
